The recognition is a proud milestone — not only for Mohana personally, but for the growing movement she represents at the intersection of food, wellness, and storytelling.

About the World of Words KL Festival
The World of Words (WoW) KL Festival is one of Malaysia’s most celebrated literary events, bringing together authors, thinkers, storytellers, and readers from across the region and beyond. Held annually at the iconic Sasana Kijang, the festival celebrates the power of words to inspire, educate, and transform.
The Special Jury Award is one of the festival’s most distinctive honours — presented to individuals whose contribution to literature and public discourse goes beyond the page. It recognises not just the quality of a body of work, but the impact that work has had on communities and lives.
Why Mohana Was Recognised
Mohana Gill’s recognition at WoW KL 2025 reflects the extraordinary reach of her work. Over two decades, her books have educated children about nutrition, empowered families to cook wholesome meals, and introduced the world to the transformative power of the Moringa tree.
Her advocacy goes far beyond writing. Through workshops, talks, school visits, and international outreach, Mohana has consistently used her platform to serve a mission greater than herself — feeding and healing the world, one meal at a time.

The Special Jury Award acknowledges that this kind of purposeful, persistent contribution to society deserves to be celebrated.
A Voice That Transcends Borders
At 90 years old, Mohana Gill continues to speak, write, and inspire with the energy and clarity of someone decades younger. Her presence at events like WoW KL serves as a reminder that literature at its best does not merely entertain — it changes how people live.
For the thousands of readers who have cooked from her books, planted Moringa in their gardens, or fed their children more consciously because of her words, this award is a recognition of their journey too.
We are deeply proud of Aunty Mohana and grateful for everything she continues to give to Malaysia and the world.
